Life on Lanyu comes with many variables, especially when it comes to opening hours. Don’t rely too much on Google Maps! It’s better to check the store’s Instagram before heading over. Of course, if you enjoy the journey even if you end up missing a place, that’s part of the adventure.Here’s a food route I love that will take you from breakfast to dinner, with just the right balance of satisfaction and relaxation:
☀️ Breakfast/Brunch: Traveler's Café
Located near Dongqing Bay, this spot has open-air bar seating with a stunning sea view. Order a cup of hand-brewed coffee, a savory pie, or thick toast, and let yourself slowly wake up with the sun.
🍴 Lunch: DOVANWA
This creative cuisine by the sea restaurant is run by local youth, blending traditional Tao (indigenous) flavors with creative dishes. Be sure to make a reservation, as seating is limited.
🍉 Dessert #1: Hentian Shaved Ice
Known for fresh fruit-flavored shaved ice, each bite feels like a burst of sunshine and fruit! If it's mango season, don’t miss out, though my favorite is watermelon.
🍵 Afternoon Dessert #2: Daomin Ice Dog Shop
This is a charming spot for afternoon tea with a Japanese-style ambiance. The ocean view is incredible, and the vibe is kind of artistic. They only have a minimal purchase for one dessert item, so make sure to follow the store’s rules when entering.
🍔 Dinner: Daodan Yu Burger
These burgers are truly unique! With generous portions and juicy patties, paired with local wild vegetables and small surprises from the ocean, they’re absolutely worth trying.
🍷 Nightcap: Lanyu House
Hidden in a lane, this private bar offers a cozy and sophisticated vibe. The cocktails are excellent, and the atmosphere will make you want to stay all night. Just make sure you’re staying at Langdao, or you might end up drinking and driving, haha!
Each of these places is one of my “I’d come back to this spot every time” recommendations. When you’re in Lanyu, remember to take your time – eat slowly, walk leisurely, and enjoy the sights. The stores might not always open on time, but the views and the local vibe will always be there.
